Tourism is reactivated on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Starting next July 15, tourism will be reactivated on the Inca Trail routes to Machu Picchu and visits to the Inca Trail Network and the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park will increase.

The news

The news was announced through a statement issued on June 18 by the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (SERNANP).
According to the document issued by the national body (SERNANP), tourism is reactivated for the aforementioned routes, the dates and the procedure to be followed to enter the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu were reported. Specifically, the following is detailed:

  • Authorized travel agencies will be able to book tickets electronically, from June 25, to enter routes 1, 2 and 3 of the intricate Inca Trail of the Historic Monument of Machu Picchu and to the National Archaeological Park.
  • The ticket reservation system will be through the page machupicchu.gob.pe.
  • From July 15, visits to the aforementioned routes will resume.

This decision was made after the agencies in charge of Tourism and Culture of Cusco and other related unions, made inspection trips to verify the routes and other accesses. It should be noted that tourism companies must abide by biosafety protocols to continue conducting traditional tours in a responsible manner.
